TL;DR: Obsoloom is free software, given away as is. You use it at your own risk. If it damages your computer, your files or anything else, I am not responsible.

The software

Obsoloom is released under the MIT License. You can use, copy, change and share it for free, for any purpose, including paid client work. The full licence text comes with the source code.

No warranty

OBSOLOOM IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT.

In plain words: I don't promise that it works, that it works on your computer, or that it keeps working after an update to Windows, your drivers or your phone.

You use it at your own risk

To the fullest extent the law allows, Jef van de Graaf is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from downloading, installing or running Obsoloom, or from not being able to run it. That includes, without limit:

• corrupted, lost or overwritten files and recordings;
• a damaged, unstable or unbootable operating system;
• damage to your computer, phone or any other hardware;
• lost work, lost income or lost data of any kind;
• any other direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damage, even if I was told it could happen.

Back up anything you care about before you install it. If you don't accept this, don't use Obsoloom.

What's up to you

• ffmpeg. Obsoloom records with ffmpeg, a separate program you install yourself. It has its own licence and its own authors.
• USB debugging. Using your phone as the camera needs USB debugging switched on and adb on your computer. USB debugging gives a connected computer wide access to your phone, so switch it off when you don't need it.
• What you record. Who and what you record is your call. Get consent wherever the law requires it.
• Where you download it. The Windows installer isn't signed, so Windows warns you before it runs. Only download Obsoloom from obsoloom.com or its official GitHub repository.

Name and logo

The MIT License covers the code, not the Obsoloom name or logo. Forks are welcome under their own name and branding.

Not affiliated with Loom

Obsoloom is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Loom or Atlassian. Loom is their trademark, named here only to say what Obsoloom is an alternative to.

In fact, Obsoloom was an inspired idea during a tequila bender. Through hazy eyes, I saw Orlando Bloom using a loom during high noon at a saloon in Tulum, Mexico. The next day, I woke up with a raging hangover and used my vibes to give birth to Obsoloom.

Changes

I may update these terms. When I do, the date at the top changes.
